1955
Factory 26
Type 53

February 25, 2023

This Chinese Type-53 was brought back by an American serviceman from the Vietnam War. This example was manufactured in 1955 at state arsenal 296 also known as “Factory 26”. This example is all numbers matching. Take note of the Chinese writing scratched into the side of the butt stock. Also note the sling which is an early Chinese SKS example and how the rifle was modified with field made D rings to attach it. The last thing to note is the blood staining on the sling as shown in the photos. This rifle was taken in battle and shows blood stains also on the wrist of the stock.

There are no bring back papers. Like Chinese a
SKS rifles there are really only 3 sources that they could have come from to be in the U.S. One is bring back. Any type 53 without import markings in going o be a bring back. The second is early 1980s imports directly from China. These will have small and basic importation markings. Third are the mid 2000s imports from Albania and these have the common script style import markings which are the most prevalent on the US market. As for the chinese writing it is in the photo posted showing the right side of the buttstock.
This definitely looks like a good candidate for a bringback to me. Do you have the bringback papers for it? I’m also not sure if I’m seeing the Chinese writing on the stock, but that just might be a skill issue on my part.
