Howdy Timothy, hard to say for certain. Perhaps the wrong date was initially stamped, and it was caught and addressed during final inspection
Big Sam, what can you tell me about the apparent overstamped final digit in the date.
It looks like it says 1893 to me. If it was produced in 1893, I would expect it to have a grease hole:
