The Finnish Civil Guard still saw the glaring issues with the M28 rifle, primarily the rear sight. The Konovolov rear sight was not well suited to precision shooting and lacked the ability to have fine, incremental adjustments made. The solution was to implement a near rear sight, as well as an aluminum tube which helped to free float the barrel. Many consider these to be the finest Mosins ever made, and happend to be the rifle of choice for the famous Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä
