
In 1927, the Finnish army begun acquiring new rifles in order to solve problems with their existing M91 rifles. Many of their existing rifles had worn barrels, had less than ideal accuracy, and were quite long. The M27 was the Finnish army's first strong attempt at solving these problems. Beginning in 1932, VKT (Valtion Kivääritehdas) would also produce a small quantity of barrels for the M27 rifle. These are very uncommon today as only around 2,500 were made
